Africa

frica. The word alone conjures up images of the wildest place on
earth. It’s smiling people, abundant wildlife, and varied cultures make
it a truly unique continent. A continent that I would love to visit.

I have been a student of Africa for a very long time. I started
when I was in high school by reading books from Ruark, Hunter, Capstick
and Hemingway. I became so obsessed that I bought an English to Swahili
translation book and learned several words. Practical…no.
Fun…absolutely. From there it took over and I just had to visit the
continent. I took out an extra student loan and spent a summer studying
abroad in Nairobi, Kenya. My true goal in the summer abroad was to see
what the “old safari grounds” really looked like. While I was there I
climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and was lucky enough to raft the Nile in
Uganda. A truly once in a lifetime trip, all the while picking up
credit for school….and some hefty student loans.

But that trip only stirred something even more powerful; a need to
return. The continent is so absolutely huge and amazingly beautiful.
Sunsets seem to go on forever. Smells, sights, and sounds that are so
unique that it feels as though you are on another planet. Africa has
become part of my life.

If I was selected to win this safari I would make the most of
every single minute. I would take thousands of pictures to share with
friends back home (and online) so that they might enjoy my hunt with me
and possibly make a trip of their own to hunt with Gerhard. I would
gladly put on seminars to help spread the word about hunting in Africa
or do whatever necessary to help share this wonderful opportunity. I
believe I could help promote your hunts to other prospective hunters
after actually visiting and seeing what it is like first hand! From the
research I have done on your website, it appears that a basic plains
game hunt is well within the grasp of the average American hunter, less
expensive than some North American hunts….….but I’m not sure many
hunters realize that.

If I was blessed enough to be selected for this trip I would have
to return the favor in some way. Whether that would be in sharing my
trip with others, taking a day or two of the trip to work on or “help
out” in camp, or just trying to help others in anyway possible. A trip
like this would truly be magnificent. Sharing it with others would be
phenomenal.

I am self employed and would be able to free up time to go if the
opportunity presented itself. I think my fiancé might even let me
go….ha! Please consider me for the honor of winning this fantastic
trip…. I promise I would do my best to share it with everyone!!
