I have had permission to hunt a farm for over 30 years. My dad's boss owns the farm and told my dad on his death bed that we, his family could hunt the farm as long as he still owned it. Before that very few others could hunt the property. After my fathers death 2 local cops obtained permission to hunt there. I went to school with the one and my dad was friends with his dad. I rarely bring anyone else in to hunt and I do my best to not interfere with the areas they like to hunt. They bring in anyone and everyone to hunt. This is the only farm in this mangament unit I have to hunt and the only place local as well. The other 2 have 2 family farms which are larger and several other farms locally to hunt. On any given night you can spotlight 15-20 doe easily on this property. I went to try to harvest a mature doe last Friday night and saw 2 people sitting in one of the fencerows with no vehicles around. So I went to see who it was and it turned out to be the other guys cousin and young son that he dropped off. I told them I would go hunt one of the other fields and I wouldn't shoot unless I heard the boy shoot. I had a big doe at about 25 yards in the field in front of me till after shooting hours and never took the shot because they never shot. I turned around and see one of the cops sitting in his truck in the lane waiting for them to come out so I walk up and talk to them. Instantly I could tell they were upset I was there as well. I told them the deal I made with the other two who don't have permission from the owner to hunt there but they didnt care and asked me not to hunt there till the late muzzleloader season, they were "saving it for the kids". I had plans to take my daughter there this week after school to hopefully harvest a buck or a doe as well. I am a little miffed off that they have the audacity to ask me not to hunt there especially since the boy said his ole man is also trying to get the big buck thats in there. Am I wrong for feeling this way? Should I hunt there anyway?

I haven't hunted there since but plan to before the muzzleloader season is out this year. I will be talking to the landowner about things before next year.

By all means you should hunt there, If you have permission you are as entitled as anyone else (& probably more so). I certainly wouldn't be worried about giving the new guys first dibs either. If you see an animal that you want, harvest it.

You should probably speak with the landowner as well. Perhaps telling him your concerns may lead to some rules being established as to who all is permitted to hunt at that location.

Personally if I was you I would stand my ground. From what you have said you have as much entitlement there as anyone else. Exercise that entitlement in a non-aggressive way, smiling & wishing the other hunters well as you walk to your spot in the field. After all, nature is there for everyone; & that includes you!
