The Shepherd Star

Something I wrote a while back...

Merry Christmas ya'll!

Remember the reason for the season...our Servant-King born at the lowest level to an unwed teen mother, in a filthy stable, laid in a manger of bug-ridden straw, amidst the filth and stench of animal urine and excrement.  He picked the most extreme circumstances so that he would experience all things at the lowest level.  He was born, loved, hated, embraced, spat upon, followed, tested, befriended, abandoned by his Father on the cross, died and rose again to save us, who are sentenced to die for our transgressions, so that we may join Him by grace alone.  Nothing we ever do will be enough to get there (we don't get there by "being good people"), only by His grace do we go to Him.  Now that is a Christmas gift for all time! All this for the same people that spat upon him, scourged him, executed him, and had no room for him in the beginning or the end...  The same people, as a society, that do not have room for Him now or allow others to take that room away.  What an amazing Servant-King we submit to and serve.  Thank God for the true meaning of Christmas.  Amidst the business of this Christmas season, stop and talk to Him, thank Him, tell Him with all conviction that you always have room for Him.  Tell Him you're SECOND.

The Shepherd Star

Oh, the breeze that sailed across
that fragrant desert eve
to sweep my eyes beyond the flock
the night I first believed.

Silver hues rained down on me
from the Eastern Star on high
Singing, “Nay, shall you now delay,
the Christ is born tonight!”

Bethlehem
lay silently
beneath the Shepherd Star
that hurried me to the manger’s side
and kept a stable from the dark.

Once there I beheld a mother’s eyes
gleaming at her Son,
while this father that did not father Him
loved Him as his Son.

They welcomed me into their fold
if only for the night
amidst the beasts and the Christ
who gave the world His light.

Gold, frankincense and precious myrrh
showered upon the Child
by magi fallen upon their knees
as He slept so tender and mild.

And upon bended knee we humbly sang
in the tiny stable there,
our voices raised, our hands held high,
we filled the evening air.

Hallelujah! Immanuel!
Our precious Savior sworn,
Prince of Peace, Son of God
Christ our King is born!
