“LIVE YOUR DREAMâ€
Planning your African Safari
When planning a trip to any foreign hunting destination the problem that usually occurs is what I am going to hunt with the money available, how long should I stay? Is it going to be enough time to get my dream trophy? Well some hunters do not need to answer that question but unfortunately if you are in the same league as I am, everything should be budgeted and planned very carefully.
With the economic situation we star at today the question usually occurs, “Should I†or “Should I Not†spend money on something that I most likely can live without? The question to me is fairly easy. One needs to live your life as well. So many people only awakens when their life’s is already over, I was watching this TV program the other night about two 70 year people, they were married for 50 years, that decided that they going to drive through Africa to England a 17500 kilometer and 90 days journey with a Rolls Royce. So they did. They ask the old lady, “now that you are back are you going to take time off to get some rest and sleep? Her answer “I will sleep enough when I am dead, it’s time to start living my dream firstâ€. Why should a 70 year old start living her dream at that age, when by taking time on a little bit off planning you can start living your dream much earlier in your life.â€For those that is not already 70†LOL!!
I usually advice Daggaboy clients to have an open conversation with me and tell me what they want to spend. Once, I as your outfitter know what your needs are, I am planning your trip for optimal hunting experience? It is crucial to the outfitter to know what you want to spend on your safari, since it can also prevent over shooting your budget.
Hunting in Africa is not that expensive and is in reachable budget to all foreign hunters. As members you already know that Kenny had a super time hunting with me and I am going to explain all cost involved in a hunting trip similar to Kenny’s.
First things first.
Your airfare:
This is something that is out of my hands but as outfitter can give you names to travel agents that specialize in African travel. But airfare should be about $2000-
Your day fees:
I usually recommend that 10 days is a good safari time to hunt good quality trophies but if you are not shooting too many 7days is good. Your day fees at your final destination will usually include the following; Transport from and to airport, all non-alcoholic beverages, food, sanitary services, all road transport to hunting destinations, transportation to taxidermist or shipping agent within the province, licensed PH. Some daily fees include more and some less, and should be discussed with the outfitter. Excluded is usually personal items you want to purchase and side tours. In a nutshell your day fees include all your daily needs to hunt.
Day fees $350- per day. Per person
Your Trophy’s
This is the hardest part coming to Africa, what should I shoot. With all the different animals you are going to see you are going to be confused. That is why I put a package together that fits your budget and I make sure that you stick to it.
As mentioned before I will use Kenny’s hunting trip as an example.
Impala - $275-
Warthog - $350-
Gems buck – $900-
Total costs;
Day fees 5 days = $1750-
Animals = $1525-
Total &nb sp; $3275- without airfare.
I believe that for $3275- one can “LIVE YOUR DREAM†with in your budget and enjoying it.
………… an African hunting safari should be enjoyed fully and hunt your desired trophy WITHIN your budget. Once I can do that, I as your outfitter done my part to let you “LIVE YOUR DREAMâ€
I thought I should share the first few minutes of Kenny’s arrival in SA with you.
I recently had the opportunity to meet one of our GHF members and I am truly convinced that all of the members of GHF are of the same caliber as Kenneth Box, aka Kennyutah.
It was at the airport when no one was coming out of the arrival terminal that I started worrying if Kenny got on the plane or not, Yolande my wife and I thought that Kenny got cold feet about the hunting trip and stayed home…… but it was when my phone rang and as I answered and realized that it is Kenny speaking, phoning from someone else’s phone, and that I have missed him at the arrivals, how did that happen, I was standing in front of the door and I am sure I should have recognized the smile if I missed the orange beaver on his shirt! OH! He went trough the back door since he used the top rifle clearing agent around. But we finally met and I was reminded by him how tired he was because of all the excitement and not very much sleep the last few weeks.
“Welcome to Africa Kenny†I said “How sure were you that I was going to be at the airport?†I ask. “It did cross my mind†he replied. “Well you are here and I am here†I said, now let’s get something to eat before we leave. “Do you eat Hamburgers and French fries I ask himâ€, supposedly to be a little sarcastic, “Yeah! That will be fine†he said “what a gentlemen†I thought………. Indeed he was.
Kenny I want to use this blog to thank you personally for the great time and all the assistance you gave me on doing some of the farm work and helping me putting the Leopard baits up. Your view of life and your humble personality is to speak off and everyone should know what great person you are.
Thank you to GHF as well for all the assistance.
