Trip to Africa !!
Posted On 10/24/2008 21:41:36

I am not known for my writing skills but i am gonna give it a try...lol I took along a notepad and i wrote down everyday's events so i will copy straight from my notes.

Sept 3rd I am on my way to Africa i cant believe it ...this plane ride sucks

Sept 4th the plane ride took forever! Gerhard and Yolonde picked me up from the airport and they seem to be great people! My backside is sore and the ride to the lodge seemed like 1000 miles, talked the whole way...im off to bed.

Sept 5th I have seen a ton of animals and its only the first day...Impala,warthogs,kudu,bushbuck and best of all i got to shoot some leopard bait for the next client  a warthog and a female impala, also saw monkeys and baboons and got to help with the placing of the leopard bait with Stromba and William some of Gerhards workers. Saw a huge kudu too they blend in so well to the environment nothing like deer and elk almost impoosible to pick out without Gerhards guidance.

Sept 6th Gemsbok down never did i think i would actually get to see on much less harvest one they are more beautiful than i ever thought they were.We stalked them but couldnt pick the bulls out of the bunch didnt want to shoot a female because they have young this time of year.Gerhard spotted a lone bull and i made a perfect shot on an elk a little far back for African game didnt go far and Gerhard tracked him perfectly was down and had to put a kill shot in him.Awesome exsperence brought tears to my eyes of course ...just the thrill of being there and the animal of my dreams i guess The food here is GREAT,Yolonde cooks for Gerhard and i everynight and it is GOOOD i know i will go home a little heavier than i arrived.   Mealies=corn i feel like i am a long lost relative Gerhard has treated me as such

Sept 7th Got my impala today a very beautiful ram his horns are 22 1/2 inches and he is very pretty. Checked the leopard baits no leopard on the cameras but a civet cat and a jackyl. Gerhard showed me a huge tree probably 20-25 feet through called a boa bab. we Spotlighted frogs with a pellet gun lol who woulda guessed i would be shooting boone and crockett frogs in Africa

Sept 8th WE went to check the leopard baits and Gerhard wanted a couple more so he spots some impala in the brush as we are driving on my side of course i didnt think i could shoot thru the brush so Gerhard says let me see your gun i lean back in the seat and he lays across my lap and says maybe i can squeeze it through the brush so i lean farther back and BOOOM i cant see for all the dust when the dust and smoke settle down we see no impala on the ground insted it the door mirror i laughed alittle but the more i thought of it the more funny it became....(sorry Gerhard had to spill it) but in Gerhards defense he didnt actually hit the mirror it was the muzzle blast. later i shot a very cool little animal that i didnt research a steen buck very unique little critter, also a female impala and a small ram for leopard baitVery good day today had Gemsbuck for dinner very good kinda a sweet taste.Going to watch a game capture tommorow.

Sept9th The game capture was awesome to watch the guy in the helicopters hank is crazy BIG timeHe chases them almost to ground level with a chopper going about as fast as it goes i think.Got a huge warthog today tusks probably close to 8 inches maybe more i dont want to leave tommorow just to be here and meet Gerhard and his familly was worth the trip i think we will be good friends for life.

Sept 10th as i sit here on the plane looking back at it all i cant believe i actually did it and am going home .I will definately go back..

That is straight from my notes when i was there lots of stuff i left out like sitting at the lodge and seeing Blue wildebeast, zebra, giraffe, eland, bushbuck, duiker, kudu and everykind of bird you can think of. I definately had the time of my life and cant wait till the next time i would encourage everyone who reads this to get in touch with Gerhard of DAGGABOY SAFARI's and see what you think.Gerhards familly was just like mine very friendly and outgoing .His dad Willie but prounounced Villie is a great guy as well.Yolonde made me to feel at home instantly and the kids are very good kids as well was glad that Gerhard brought them around helped me with my kid fix so missing mine was not as bad.More card tricks next time...lol

With all of that said i want to thank Gerhard again for his generosity in donating the hunt and GHF for putting it on Thanks is not good enough but will have toi do till the pay is better

FIRST BUCK!!
Posted On 06/06/2008 21:42:40

once in a great while you have an experience that brings tears of joy to your eyes, like the birth of a child.but it gets better when that child grows into a youn adult and use's the skills passed down from generations before to there young mind.know that the outdoor traditions we all love and fight for are alive and well with the younger generation because of all of us.my daughter killed her first buck this year..the first year she could hunt a nice forked horn!we had scouted and had seen alot bigger bucks so i gave her the choice to shoot one of the 4 we jumped up together or look for a bigger one.big decision when you are on your first big game hunt!i think she made a good choice in taking the one she choose out of the group.we watched them for a half hour or better as they fed right back to us after we busted them out...first time i have seen that as well.she watched through the scope of her 22-250 the whole time and kept sayin can i shoot dad can i shoot i made her take the gun down and look at them at around 600 yds and she knew they were alot farther than she thought.i was confident she would make a good shot at 250 yds but wanted them much closer if they would come and they just kept feeding our way so we waited.i cant imagine all the thoughts goin through her head but she stayed relatively calm and when they got around 200 yds i think they caught our scent and started gettin nervous so i gave her the go head to shoot and she made a perfect shot right behind the shoulder,as the other 3 bucks took moff in unison one stood alone head down kinda stumbling and then fell dead .i began to cry tears of joy out of no-where as my daughter put the gun to the ground rather violently and took off at a dead run leaving me there in the trees to take it all in.thank you to all the parents and grandparents who have passed on their knowledge to us the next generation.

thanks to the contest we are havin i have been thinking alot about Africa lately, mostly why isnt everyone signed up.for those of us who live in the US Africa is something we only get to see on tv.sure most of us have seen a lion and even an elephant but to see one in the wild acting naturally would be awesome.this is like "Lungbuster" said a true once in a lifetime chance for most of us ...so get to signing up and good luck to all...and huge thanks to Gerhard for showing us pics of his country and the animals that roam free not in zoo's....wonder do they have deer and turkeys and elk in the zoo's in Africa?

Africa!! My Official BLOG
Posted On 06/06/2008 21:40:20

First let me say i think i no more deserve to win than anyone else so with that said....The reason i would like to win is because who wouldnt.Africa has always been a place to let the mind wander to all of the big game species and all the wide open space that i have only seen on tv or at the zoo.Gerhard has an awesome place to call home as well as a job that every hunter would like to have.It would be for me the thrill of a lifetime to get to hunt in africa, and all the stories to go along with the hunt.i would be the only one at elk camp with stories of Africa to share.it would also be an awesome experience to just see the different culture and to see a country that is still wild, not like most places here even yellowstone is getting to be like a city with all the people driving around endlessly looking for the thrill that we as hunters experience everytime we are in the hunting woods.i cant imagine seeing a lion or an elephant acting like a true wild animal not the pacing back and forth version we see at the zoo.so with that said win or lose iv'e had fun with the contest and THANK YOU Gerhard for your generosity in donating the hunt and to all who were involved in the process, and good luck to everyone.
